Nick’s mom recently shared such a meaningful reflection about his experience with Belco:

“Belco has provided Nick with an opportunity to develop valuable work skills while being supported in a way that recognizes his individual abilities, strengths and needs. Belco has been an important part of Nick’s journey toward greater independence, and I am thankful for the support, patience and encouragement they have provided to him.”

For families, watching someone you care about try something new — especially entering a workplace for the first time — can come with a lot of questions and concerns. Will they feel comfortable? Will they be accepted? Will they be able to learn the tasks? What happens if they become overwhelmed or need additional support?
Individuals can have those same concerns. A new workplace, new people and unfamiliar responsibilities can feel intimidating. That is why the right community partner can make all the difference.

Nick’s community work experience at Bin Mania in Heath provided him with the opportunity to experience work firsthand while exploring a variety of tasks and learning what he was capable of doing in a real workplace. Each new task became an opportunity to build skills, confidence and independence.

Just as important as the work itself was the culture of the Bin Mania team. Their willingness to welcome Nick, provide encouragement, answer questions and offer natural support created an environment where he could learn, participate and feel like part of the team.

At Belco, we believe employment journeys are built through partnerships. When businesses are willing to open their doors and create meaningful opportunities, individuals gain more than work skills — they gain confidence, experience and a greater sense of what is possible.

Thank you, Bin Mania Heath, for being the kind of community partner that helps individuals take that first step toward greater independence. We appreciate the entire team for making Nick’s first work experience such a positive one!
